The coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak has affected individuals of all age groups, specifically the elderly who are vulnerable and exposed to the virus. This has made it a challenging and stressful time for senior caregivers who are at the beck and call of ailing patients.

As certified in-home caregivers in Sterling, VA, at Senior Care Safe At Home Inc., we’ve been practicing excellent hygiene for the longest time, so that our team and clients remain healthy. While this is a difficult time for all of us, we understand the gravity of the situation and attempt to do everything we can to protect our clients and provide safe assistance.

Keep reading to learn about how we’re caring for a client with low immunity during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Challenge: Reassuring our client who has a weakened immune system during COVID-19.

We recently had to work with a client who was scared about the Covid-19 pandemic because he has COPD (Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), and his immune system was compromised. However, long before the coronavirus started, our caregiver followed universal precautions during his shifts. He would wash his hands when he first showed up. He would then wear gloves and clean all the surfaces. So, when the situation with the coronavirus hit hard, our client already felt safe and comfortable.

The Solution: We continued with our safety practices and precautions.

We realized that for our client to feel safe and comfortable, we had to do what we had been doing earlier. So, our caregiver continued to wear gloves and clean all the surfaces. He would wash his hands regularly and use hand sanitizer whenever needed. This offered reassurance to our client, and he requested us to continue providing service for him.

Our biggest challenge was finding supplies to use. Everyone was looking for gloves, face masks, cleaning supplies (bleach wipes, etc.), but we managed to order from different sources.

This is an ongoing service as we maintain our safety practices and precautions to ensure our client feels safe and comfortable.
